Chemical Analysis of Construction Water(IS 456:2000 Table 1 · IS 3025)

Testing of mixing and curing water against the IS 456:2000 acceptance limits — pH, chlorides, sulphates, solids and organics by IS 3025 methods — before questionable water enters your concrete.

What is Construction Water Analysis?

Water quality is the cheapest durability decision on any site — and one of the most ignored. IS 456:2000 (Clause 5.4 and Table 1) limits what mixing and curing water may carry: pH not less than 6, chlorides max 500 mg/l for RCC (2000 mg/l for PCC), sulphates max 400 mg/l, plus caps on organic and inorganic solids. Borewell, tanker and recycled water frequently fail one or more of these — silently importing corrosion and set-interference into every batch.

Global Lab analyses water samples by the IS 3025 method series — pH, chlorides, sulphates, total dissolved and suspended solids, organic matter and alkalinity/acidity by neutralisation titration — and reports each parameter against its IS 456 limit with a clear usability verdict for mixing and curing.

How the Chemical Analysis of Construction Water is Conducted

  • 1

    Sampling

Water is sampled in clean containers per IS 3025 (Part 1) practice with source, date and storage details recorded.
  • 2

    pH & Physical Parameters

pH, appearance and suspended solids are determined promptly after receipt.
  • 3

    Chloride & Sulphate Determination

Chlorides (argentometric) and sulphates (gravimetric/turbidimetric) are determined per their IS 3025 parts.
  • 4

    Solids & Organics

Total dissolved and suspended solids and organic matter are determined against Table 1 caps.
  • 5

    Neutralisation Checks

Alkalinity/acidity titrations per the IS 456 requirement are performed.
  • 6

    Reporting

Parameter-wise results with IS 456 verdicts for mixing and curing use are issued via Autovity QLMS.
