Cut and Pull-Out
(CAPO) Test
In-situ measurement of concrete compressive strength through bond strength testing of embedded steel — delivering accurate, non-destructive results directly on-site without removing core samples.
What is the Cut and Pull-Out (CAPO) Test?
The Cut and Pull-Out (CAPO) Test is an advanced in-situ non-destructive testing method used to determine the compressive strength of existing concrete structures without the need for drilling or coring. A small disc is inserted into a shallow groove cut into the concrete surface, and a hydraulic jack applies a pullout force.
This method provides highly reliable compressive strength data directly from the structure being tested, making it ideal for quality assurance, structural assessment, and determining concrete maturity. Global Lab conducts CAPO tests as per IS 516, ASTM C 900, and other applicable standards using NABL-calibrated equipment.
How the CAPO Test is Conducted
-
1Surface PreparationA shallow groove (approx. 25mm deep) is cut into the concrete surface using a diamond-tipped cutting tool. The surface is cleaned of dust and debris.
-
2Insert Disc PlacementA specially designed steel insert disc is placed into the groove. A thin rod connects the disc to the pullout apparatus above the surface.
-
3Hydraulic Pullout Force ApplicationA hydraulic jack applies a steady, controlled pullout force to the insert disc via the reaction ring resting on the concrete surface.
-
4Failure Load RecordingThe maximum force at which the concrete cone is extracted is recorded. A digital load indicator provides real-time readings with data logging.
-
5Strength Calculation & ReportingThe pullout force is correlated to cube compressive strength using established calibration curves. NABL-accredited reports are issued via Autovity QLMS.
