Chemical Analysis — Reinforcement Steel Bar(IS 1786:2008 · IS 228)
Chemical composition testing of TMT/HSD reinforcement bars per IS 1786:2008 — verifying carbon, sulphur, phosphorus, manganese and carbon equivalent against the declared grade (Fe415 to Fe600).
What is Reinforcement Steel Bar Chemical Analysis?
TMT/HSD reinforcement bars derive both strength and weldability from tightly controlled chemistry. IS 1786:2008 specifies chemical composition limits for grades Fe415, Fe415D, Fe500, Fe500D, Fe550, Fe550D and Fe600 — carbon, sulphur, phosphorus and manganese are capped individually, and carbon equivalent (CE) is capped separately as the key indicator of weldability.
Global Lab determines composition using Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) per IS 228 analysis methods, reporting carbon, manganese, sulphur, phosphorus, silicon and carbon equivalent against the IS 1786:2008 limits for the declared grade — confirming the bar is genuinely the grade marked, not just visually similar TMT stock.

How the Chemical Analysis — Reinforcement Steel Bar is Conducted
- 1
Sample Selection
A representative bar section is sampled from the delivered batch, matching the declared grade marking (Fe415/500/550/600). - 2
Surface Preparation
The sample cross-section is ground flat and clean to remove mill scale and surface decarburization before spectral analysis. - 3
OES Spark Analysis
Optical Emission Spectroscopy determines carbon, manganese, sulphur, phosphorus and silicon in a single burn, calibrated against certified reference material. - 4
Carbon Equivalent Calculation
Carbon equivalent (CE) is calculated from the measured composition and checked against the IS 1786:2008 limit for the declared grade — the key weldability indicator. - 5
Reporting
Full elemental composition and CE are compiled into a NABL-accredited report confirming grade compliance, issued via Autovity QLMS.
