What is Profile Projector Calibration?

Profile projectors verify thread forms, gauge profiles and small components by optical magnification — so their accuracy rests on three things: true magnification, accurate stage travel, and a correctly-reading screen protractor. Errors in any of them propagate directly into every profile measurement made on the instrument.

Global Lab calibrates projectors using NPLI-traceable glass scales and stage micrometers: magnification is verified at the screen against certified line spacings, X and Y stage travels are calibrated across their range against the glass scale, and the screen protractor is checked with certified angle references — with all results and uncertainties reported per our ISO/IEC 17025 system.

How the Profile Projector Calibration is Conducted

  • 1

    Visual & Alignment Check

Screen cross-hair alignment, illumination and focus travel are inspected as-found.
  • 2

    Magnification Verification

A certified glass scale is projected and screen dimensions compared against nominal magnification at working lenses.
  • 3

    Stage Travel Calibration

X and Y micrometer/DRO travels are calibrated at intervals across the range against the traceable scale.
  • 4

    Protractor Screen Check

The rotatable screen protractor is verified against certified angle artefacts.
  • 5

    Certification

Errors, uncertainties and as-left condition are issued via Autovity QLMS.
