What is the Pull-Off Adhesion of Bonding Layer on Concrete?

The Pull-Off Adhesion of Bonding Layer on Concrete test measures the tensile bond between a bonding agent or repair overlay and the concrete substrate. This is critical for structural repair works where the bond between new and old concrete must exceed the tensile strength of the concrete substrate to ensure repair integrity.

Conducted as per BS EN 1542 and ASTM C1583, this test is mandatory for structural repair overlays, epoxy injection effectiveness, bonding agent performance and waterproofing membrane adhesion verification. Global Lab conducts both in-situ and laboratory pull-off tests on bonding layer systems.

Structural Repair Acceptance
Mandatory acceptance test for structural repair and overlay systems.
ASTM C1583 & BS EN 1542
Both standards available per project specification requirements.
Failure Mode Classification
Concrete fracture vs interface failure vs overlay cohesive failure — all reported.
All Bonding Systems
Epoxy, cementitious slurry, SBR bonding agents and overlay systems.
NABL Certified Reports
All results on NABL-accredited letterhead per BS EN 1542.
Pre & Post-Repair Testing
Before-and-after testing quantifies bond improvement from substrate preparation.

How the Pull-Off Adhesion of Bonding Layer on Concrete is Conducted

  • 1
    Surface Preparation Assessment
Substrate preparation (shot blasting, scarifying) assessed and documented.
  • 2
    Bonding Layer Application
Bonding agent applied per specification. Cured for specified period.
  • 3
    Dolly Bonding & Core Drilling
50mm dolly bonded to bonding layer surface. Core drilled through overlay to concrete.
  • 4
    Pull-Off Test
Tensile load applied at 0.05 N/mm²/s per BS EN 1542.
  • 5
    Result & Failure Mode Report
Bond strength and failure mode reported vs specification minimum (≥1.5 N/mm² for structural repair). NABL report within 24 hours.
