What is Decorative Board Testing?

Decorative surfaced boards — high-pressure decorative laminates (IS 2046:1995) bonded to substrates, and factory-finished pre-laminated particle boards (IS 12823:2015) — dominate Indian furniture, wall panelling and modular interiors. Their service life is decided by surface performance: resistance to abrasion, boiling water, steam, stains, cigarette burns and scratches, plus the bond between the decorative face and the substrate.

Global Lab tests decorative sheets and pre-laminated boards against the applicable specification — surface wear and resistance tests per IS 2046, and the board-level requirements of IS 12823 including surface soundness, screw withdrawal and modulus of rupture — giving furniture makers, OEMs and buyers a defensible grade-compliance verdict.

How the Decorative Board Testing is Conducted

  • 1

    Sampling & Conditioning

Sheets or boards are sampled per the applicable specification and specimens conditioned before testing.
  • 2

    Dimensional & Appearance Checks

Thickness, size tolerances, surface finish and visual defects are checked against specification classes.
  • 3

    Surface Resistance Tests

Resistance to surface wear (abrasion), boiling water, dry heat, staining agents, and scratching are tested per IS 2046 methods for the declared grade/type.
  • 4

    Board-Level Tests (IS 12823)

For pre-laminated particle boards: surface soundness, resistance to steam, screw withdrawal strength, modulus of rupture, and swelling in water per the specification.
  • 5

    Reporting

Per-clause results with a grade-compliance verdict are issued via Autovity QLMS.
