Mild Steel Bar Testing
(IS 2062 — Mild Steel Flat & Round Bars)
Mechanical testing of mild steel (MS) bars, flats and rounds as per IS 2062 — verifying yield strength, tensile strength, elongation and bend test for structural, fabrication and general engineering applications.
What is the Mild Steel Bar Testing?
Mild Steel Bars (IS 2062 Grade E250) are widely used in structural fabrication, building construction, bridge structures and general engineering — for angles, channels, beams, plates and round bars. Lower yield strength than TMT rebar but excellent ductility and weldability make MS the preferred choice for fabricated structural components.
At Global Lab, mild steel bar testing per IS 2062 covers yield strength (250 MPa minimum for E250), ultimate tensile strength (410 MPa minimum), percentage elongation (23% minimum) and cold bend test — confirming mechanical compliance for structural steel fabrication and construction quality assurance.

How the Mild Steel Bar Testing is Conducted
-
1Sample PreparationMS bar cut to standard gauge length per IS 1608. Ends prepared.
-
2Tensile TestLoad applied in NABL-calibrated UTM. Yield point, UTS and elongation recorded.
-
3Cold Bend TestBar bent 180° over specified mandrel (d = 3t for E250 per IS 2062).
-
4InspectionBend test specimen inspected for cracks on outer curved face.
-
5IS 2062 Compliance ReportAll results vs IS 2062 E250 requirements. NABL certificate within 3 days.
