What is the Ultrafine GGBS (UGGBS) Testing?

Ultrafine GGBS (UGGBS) is a premium SCM with Blaine fineness exceeding 600 m²/kg — significantly finer than standard GGBS (400–450 m²/kg). Its ultra-fine particle size provides superior pore-filling, increased pozzolanic reactivity and dramatically improved impermeability in concrete — making it the preferred SCM for marine, nuclear and high-durability applications.

At Global Lab, UGGBS testing is conducted as per IS 16714 and BS EN 15167, covering Blaine fineness (≥600 m²/kg), glass content, activity index at 7 and 28 days, soundness, and chemical analysis (CaO, SiO₂, Al₂O₃, MgO, S, Cl, TiO₂). These parameters directly govern UGGBS performance in high-performance and ultra-high-performance concrete.

Ultra-High Blaine Fineness
≥600 m²/kg Blaine confirmed — key differentiator from standard GGBS.
Activity Index at 7 & 28 Days
Hydraulic reactivity confirmed by mortar strength activity index testing.
Glass Content Verification
≥85% glass content per IS 16714 for maximum reactivity.
Chemical Analysis
CaO, SiO₂, Al₂O₃, MgO, S, Cl and TiO₂ quantified by XRF.
NABL Certified Reports
All results on NABL-accredited letterhead per IS 16714 / BS EN 15167.
Batch Consistency Monitoring
Batch-to-batch quality monitoring for large infrastructure projects.

How the Ultrafine GGBS (UGGBS) Testing is Conducted

  • 1
    Sample Collection
UGGBS sample collected from bulk bag, silo or package per IS 16714 sampling procedure.
  • 2
    Physical Tests
Blaine fineness (air permeability), specific gravity, moisture content and soundness tested.
  • 3
    Activity Index
Mortar cubes with 50% UGGBS + 50% OPC vs 100% OPC control. Activity index at 7 and 28 days.
  • 4
    Glass Content
X-ray diffraction or selective dissolution method to determine amorphous glass content.
  • 5
    Chemical Analysis & Report
XRF chemical analysis. IS 16714 compliance checked. NABL report within 35 days.
