AAC Block Testing
(Autoclaved Aerated Concrete — IS 2185)
Complete physical and mechanical testing of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) blocks as per IS 2185 Part 3 — verifying dry density, compressive strength, moisture content, dimensional tolerances and water absorption.
What is the AAC Block Testing?
Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) Blocks are lightweight, thermally insulating masonry units produced from cement, fly ash, lime, gypsum and aluminium powder — cured under high-pressure steam (autoclave). They offer significant advantages over conventional brick — lightweight (400–800 kg/m³), excellent thermal insulation, fire resistance and workability.
At Global Lab, AAC block testing is conducted as per IS 2185 Part 3 covering dry density (Grade D4 to D8), compressive strength, moisture content at delivery, dimensional tolerances (length, width, height) and water absorption. Results determine the grade designation and suitability for load-bearing and non-load-bearing applications.

How the AAC Block Testing is Conducted
-
1Sample SelectionMinimum 6 blocks per consignment selected per IS 2185 Part 3 sampling procedure.
-
2Dimensional MeasurementLength, width and height of all 6 blocks measured. Mean and range vs ±3mm tolerance.
-
3Moisture Content3 blocks tested for moisture content at delivery per IS 2185 Part 3.
-
4Dry Density3 blocks oven-dried to constant mass. Dry density = dry mass / volume calculated.
-
5Compressive Strength & Report3 blocks tested in CTM at specified loading rate. Compressive strength vs IS 2185 Table 1. NABL report within 7 days.
