Precast Concrete Manhole Cover Testing
(IS 1726 — Manhole Cover Load Test)
Complete mechanical testing of precast reinforced concrete manhole covers and frames as per IS 1726 — verifying load capacity, dimensional accuracy and surface finish for road and utility applications.
What is the Precast Concrete Manhole Cover Testing?
Precast Concrete Manhole Covers must withstand repeated heavy traffic loading without failure. IS 1726 specifies load test requirements for different duty classes — Light Duty (LD), Medium Duty (MD), Heavy Duty (HD) and Extra Heavy Duty (EHD) — corresponding to footpaths, light roads, main roads and heavy industrial traffic.
At Global Lab, manhole cover testing covers the IS 1726 load test (proof load and ultimate load), dimensional verification, skid resistance assessment and surface finish inspection — all in our NABL-accredited laboratory using calibrated loading frames with hydraulic jacks and load cells.

How the Precast Concrete Manhole Cover Testing is Conducted
-
1Dimensional CheckCover and frame dimensions, seating depth and surface finish checked per IS 1726.
-
2Cover PlacementCover seated in frame. Frame placed on prepared flat support per IS 1726.
-
3Proof Load ApplicationHydraulic jack applies proof load to centre of cover. Load held 1 minute. No cracking or permanent set permitted.
-
4Load Removal & InspectionLoad removed. Cover inspected for cracks, permanent deformation and seating disturbance.
