Square and rectangular hollow steel sections (SHS/RHS) to IS 4923:2017 are widely used as structural columns and beams for their high strength-to-weight ratio and clean architectural profile. The standard covers hot- and cold-formed sections in grades YST210, YST240, YST310 and YST355, with tensile testing conducted per IS 1608 (Part 1):2022 — one tensile test is required per 500 sections manufactured under the same conditions.
