What is Marine Plywood Testing?
"Marine ply" is one of the most misused labels in the Indian panel market. Genuine marine plywood per IS 710:2010 (Marine Plywood — Specification) requires selected species, BWP phenolic bonding proven by a 72-hour boil without delamination, minimum glue shear strength retained after boiling and after mycological (fungus) attack, and controlled moisture content — a far stricter regime than commercial MR-grade boards routinely sold as "marine".

Sampling & Conditioning

72-Hour Boiling Water Test
Specimens are boiled for 72 hours and examined for any delamination — the defining marine bond requirement. - 4

Shear strength is tested dry, after boiling, and after mycological exposure; retained values must meet IS 710 minimums. - 5

MOR/MOE are determined for structural marine applications per IS 1734. - 6
