What is the Reinforcement Bars & Wires Testing?

Reinforcement Bar Testing covers all mandatory mechanical tests required to verify that TMT (Thermo-Mechanically Treated) reinforcement steel bars meet the requirements of IS 1786:2008. Key properties include yield strength (0.2% proof stress), ultimate tensile strength, percentage elongation, bend test and rebend test — all critical for structural ductility and seismic performance.

At Global Lab, rebar testing is conducted in our NABL-accredited Universal Testing Machine (UTM) laboratory. Every test includes a complete stress-strain curve, clear pass/fail against IS 1786 grade requirements (Fe 415, Fe 415D, Fe 500, Fe 500D, Fe 550, Fe 550D, Fe 600) and a legally valid NABL test certificate.

How the Reinforcement Bars & Wires Testing is Conducted

  • 1
    Sample Preparation
Rebar samples cut to specified gauge length per IS 1608. Gauge length marked. Weight per metre measured.
  • 2
    Tensile Test Setup
Sample gripped in NABL-calibrated UTM. Extensometer attached for accurate strain measurement.
  • 3
    Tensile Test Execution
Load applied at 2–20 MPa/s. Yield point/0.2% proof stress, UTS and % elongation recorded.
  • 4
    Bend & Rebend Test
Bend test at specified mandrel diameter per IS 1786 Table 5. Rebend test at 100°C re-straightening per IS 1786.
  • 5
    IS 1786 Compliance Report
All results compared against IS 1786 grade requirements. NABL certificate with stress-strain curve issued within 3 days.
