Chemical Analysis — Steel Tube
(IS 3601 / IS 1239 — General Engineering Tube)
Chemical composition testing of steel tubes for mechanical and general engineering purposes per IS 3601 and IS 1239 — verifying carbon, manganese, sulphur, phosphorus and silicon for grade compliance and application suitability.
What is the Chemical Analysis — Steel Tube?
Steel Tube Chemical Analysis for general engineering and mechanical purposes covers the full range of steel tubes used in furniture, scaffolding, machinery, hydraulics and structural applications per IS 3601 and IS 1239. Chemical composition governs both the mechanical properties achievable and the suitability for fabrication operations including bending, swaging, flaring and welding.
At Global Lab, steel tube chemical analysis by OES provides rapid, simultaneous determination of C, Mn, S, P, Si, Cr, Ni, Mo from a single polished specimen — covering mild steel (IS 1239), medium tensile (IS 3601) and precision tube grades. Chemical analysis is essential quality control for structural furniture manufacturers, scaffold tube suppliers and engineering fabricators.

How the Chemical Analysis — Steel Tube is Conducted
-
1
Surface Preparation
A shallow groove (approx. 25mm deep) is cut into the concrete surface using a diamond-tipped cutting tool. The surface is cleaned of dust and debris. -
2
Insert Disc Placement
A specially designed steel insert disc is placed into the groove. A thin rod connects the disc to the pullout apparatus above the surface. -
3
Hydraulic Pullout Force Application
A hydraulic jack applies a steady, controlled pullout force to the insert disc via the reaction ring resting on the concrete surface. -
4
Failure Load Recording
The maximum force at which the concrete cone is extracted is recorded. A digital load indicator provides real-time readings with data logging. -
5
Strength Calculation & Reporting
The pullout force is correlated to cube compressive strength using established calibration curves. NABL-accredited reports are issued via Autovity QLMS.
